Why is CPR Class: Cca being specified more often?
Cca-rated cable is increasingly requested in UK installations due to BS6701:2017 guidance, rising insurer expectations, and a growing focus on fire safety in both new builds and refurbishments.
It offers better performance in flame spread, smoke production, and heat release compared to lower classifications like Eca.
What does Cca actually mean under CPR?
Under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), Cca is a Euroclass fire performance rating that indicates a higher level of flame retardance and overall safety compared to Dca or Eca.
All Cca-classified cables must be:
- Independently tested by third-party Notified Bodies
- Supplied with a Declaration of Performance (DoP)
- UKCA or CE marked
Where does Eca fit in?
Eca-rated cables remain CPR-classified and may be suitable for some applications. However, they do not meet the performance level recommended by BS6701:2017 for fixed installations inside buildings.
As a result, many consultants, specifiers, and insurers are now expecting Cca-rated cable as standard practice.
If a specification calls for Cca, Eca will not be accepted — even if it meets minimum CPR requirements.
